Other wineries and tasting rooms in Oregon
Beyond the state's mainstream varieties, a small number of Oregon producers grow lesser-known grapes in very limited volumes: single-vineyard experiments more than commercial-scale plantings. Gamay has the longest track record: first planted in the Ribbon Ridge AVA in 1992, it typically ripens later than Pinot Noir while holding onto strong natural acidity, echoing its home region of Beaujolais.
Other small plantings include the Loire Valley white Melon de Bourgogne, the Rhône white Grenache Blanc, Italy's Arneis, and reds like Baco Noir and Tannat, most made in tiny quantities by winemakers testing what else the state's cool, varied terroir can ripen well.
Grüner Veltliner is the one to watch. Northwest Wine Report's Sean Sullivan reviewed more than 60 Northwest bottlings in March 2025 and concluded the Willamette Valley "is quietly making some delicious Grüner Veltliner," citing Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards's 2005 vintage as the first US bottling of the grape, per Decanter. Flâneur's side-by-side trials have found the Oregon wines noticeably higher in acid than their Austrian counterparts.
